Upon walking into a tanning facility, you notice the following ad. It goes on to claim, "Recent research indicates that the benefits of moderate exposure to UV using our tanning beds reduces your risk of skin cancer..." Is this an acceptable form of advertisement? What body is responsible for investigating false advertisements?

Answer:

This is not acceptable advertising as they are making unsupported claims about their tanning beds. The following ad can be investigated by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. Corrective action can be taken if they determine it to be a false, misleading, or deceptive form of advertisement.
