Caption: Eukaryote
Text: Eukaryotes are organisms in which cells have a membrane-bound nucleus. Animals, plants, fungi, and protozoa are all eukaryotes.

In contrast, bacteria are prokaryotes. They generally have a single chromosome, frequently in a circular form, but they do not have a membrane-bound nucleus. Instead, the chromosome is in the cytoplasm of the bacterial cell in an area sometimes referred to as the "nucleoid."
